She announced her retirement from in 2003, citing serious back and spinal problems. “Basically, I had injuries almost every year. In 1997 I had a stress fracture and was out for three months,” she said. “In 1998 I tore a ligament in my thumb and was out for three months; in 1999 I had another stress fracture for three months; and then in 2001 I basically didn’t play the whole year.”
