Pramono Anung's Plan to Reduce Pollution in Jakarta: Force People to Use Public Transportation
Jakarta Governor-elect Pramono Anung plans to implement a policy that forces people to switch to using public transportation.
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor-elect stated that Jakarta is one of the cities with high levels of air pollution. He plans to implement a policy that forces people to switch to using public transportation.
"The congestion is high, so the enthusiasm to reduce sulfur must be done, it can't be done anymore," he said in a casual chat event about Jakarta as a Bicycle-Friendly City held at Kedai Halangan, South Jakarta, Sunday, January 26, 2025.
One of the steps, said Pramono, is to implement an electronic road pricing system or Electronic Road Pricing (ERP). This system was first implemented by neighboring Singapore.
"Like it or not. Maybe this will be an unpopular policy. But it must be implemented so that people are forced to use public transportation," he said.
In addition, he will also optimize the existing public transportation system, not only aimed at reducing emissions, but also to overcome congestion. Pramono said that one of the factors causing congestion in Jakarta is the large number of workers who come from surrounding areas, such as Bekasi, Bogor, Tangerang, South Tangerang, Depok, and even Cianjur.
According to Pramono, the steps that can be taken are to change Transjakarta to Transjabodetabek, so that people choose to take public transportation and not use private vehicles. However, before that, facilities such as adequate parking areas need to be prepared first, so that people can park their private vehicles before switching to public transportation.
"That's what will reduce people using private vehicles, whether it's a motorbike or a car," he said.
For information, the elected Governor Pramono Anung and his deputy Rano Karno are planned to be inaugurated on February 6, 2025. The Head of the Pramono Anung and Rano Karno Transition Team, Ima Mahdiah, said that the two pairs would immediately carry out their duties as regional heads.
"Ready. So when he is inaugurated on February 6, he is ready," said Ima when met in the Jakarta City Hall area, on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Ima said that and Rano Karno's preparations for their inauguration had reached 70 percent. She said that her team is currently in the finalization stage of the work program to support the transition process from the previous government. "We are already 70 percent," said Ima.
