TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle () spokesperson Guntur Romli said the meeting between President Subianto and PDIP General Chair Soekarnoputri was a momentum for national consolidation.
He said the two party chairmen have a long track record of friendship. In addition, according to Guntur, Prabowo and Megawati also have historical and ideological factors that make these two figures respect each other in political positions.
"The meeting is a momentum for national consolidation, considering that the two national figures have a very long track record of friendship," Guntur said in his written statement, Sunday, January 19, 2025.
He said PDIP had discussed the plan for a meeting between Prabowo and Megawati. Guntur said the PDIP General Chair planned to communicate directly with Prabowo to schedule the meeting.
"As conveyed by Mas Hasto on January 17, regarding the discussion of the planned meeting, Ibu Megawati will communicate directly with President Prabowo," he said.
Meanwhile, Gerindra Party Secretary General Ahmad Muzani hopes that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati can take place this month. However, he did not explain the exact time of the meeting between the two figures.
"I pray that this month the sooner the better," said Ahmad Muzani when met at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Although the two have not met, Muzani claims that since Prabowo was elected president, the close relationship between the Gerindra Party General Chair and Megawati has remained good. He said that all forms of communication were still carried out between the two figures.
"When Mr. Prabowo was elected President, the relationship was also maintained. It is true that the two have never met. But communication is carried out in various ways," he said.
The Chair of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) also assessed that the meeting between the two figures had a greater impact on the Indonesian people. He said that the impact was like bringing a breath of fresh air to 's current government.
"Who will it affect? God willing, all of us Indonesian people. It's something like that, so the meeting between the two is expected to bring a breath of fresh air to the country's government," said Muzani.
