Ijen Express Train Ketapang - Malang Route Officially Operating: Here's the Schedule and Ticket Prices
PT KAI officially launched the Ijen Express Train service with the Ketapang - Malang route, Saturday night, February 1, 2025.
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia () officially launched the Ijen Express Train service with the Ketapang - Malang route, Saturday night, February 1, 2025. The existence of the Ijen Ekspress Train will add alternative choices for more comfortable, safe, and efficient transportation modes.
The Ijen Express Train is designed with modern facilities that prioritize passenger comfort and safety as well as more efficient and environmentally friendly travel. This service is equipped with the latest generation of executive and economy trains modified by Balaiyasa Manggarai. With a capacity of 366 seats, this train can serve various groups of people.
Departure Schedule
The Ijen Express Train departure schedule from Ketapang Station is at 19:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) and arrives at Malang Station at 02:30 WIB. As for the opposite direction, departure from Malang Station is at 07:50 WIB and arrives at Ketapang Station at 14:55 WIB. The price of the Ijen Express train ticket starts from Rp260,000 for the new generation economy class and Rp390,000 for the executive class. Tickets can be ordered through the Access by KAI application or other official ticket booking channels.
Before the Ijen Express train, the Ketapang - Malang Kota Lama PP route was served by the Tawangalun train. During 2024, this train has served 518,594 passengers, which is 134 percent of the available capacity during 2024 of 386,900 seats. The high demand for the Tawangalun train is one of the reasons KAI runs the Ijen Ekspres train which operates on the same route.
The inauguration of the Ijen Express Train was carried out by the Director of Human Resources and General Affairs of KAI, Rosma Handayani, who was accompanied by the Assistant for the Economy and Development of Banyuwangi Regency Dwi Yanto at Ketapang Station, Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Connectivity of Two Tourist Destinations
Rosma Handayani said that the Ijen Express Train is present as a form of KAI's commitment to improving train transportation services in East Java, especially in supporting connectivity between two strategic tourist destinations, namely Banyuwangi and Malang. With the presence of the Ijen Express Train, the public now has a choice of transportation modes that are more comfortable, safe, and efficient.
"With the presence of the Ijen Express Train, wants to strengthen connectivity between the regions it passes through, facilitate public mobility, and support the development of the tourism sector and the creative economy through transportation modes that are not only comfortable but also safe," said Rosma in a written statement received by Tempo, Sunday, February 2, 2025.
