Jokowi Denies Political Agenda in Yogyakarta Meeting with Sultan HB X
Jokowi denied there were political discussions between him and Sultan HB X.
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s former and 7th president, Joko “” Widodo, admitted that he met with the Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengkuwono X, at the Kilen Palace complex on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Jokowi said the meeting with Sultan HB X was purely social, as they have yet granted the opportunity to meet after Jokowi retired.
“It was a social visit. I haven’t met him in a long while, that’s all,” Jokowi told the media crew at his residence in Sumber Village, Banjarsari District, Solo City, Central Java, today.
Jokowi denied there were political discussions between him and Sultan HB X. He said the two-hour meeting talked more about “geopolitics and the global economy.
According to Tempo's records, the last public meeting between Jokowi and Sultan Hamengkubuwono X was during the inauguration of the Solo-Yogyakarta-Kulonprogo Toll Road Section 1 Kartasura-Klaten on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
At that time, the Yogyakarta Governor delivered a speech related to the toll road operations, emphasizing the necessity to regulate traffic flow on the toll road.
According to the Sultan at the time, there should be regulated areas for micro, small, and medium enterprises, or MSMEs, to market their products outside the toll lanes to maintain cheaper prices but still accessible to the toll road itself.
