Prabowo to Run Large-Scale Projects That Will 'Shock the World' in 2025

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Subianto said his government will carry out large-scale transformation towards downstream and industrialization this year.

“It will shock the world,” he said on Monday, January 20, while inaugurating dozens of electricity projects at Jatigede Hydropower Plant, West Java.

The Head of State said that the government's plan is feasible because of austerity policies in all fields. Prabowo received a report from Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati that the budget cut policy resulted in substantial savings.

The former Defense Minister also said that with the money, it is possible to provide electricity access to villages previously unreachable by the state electricity company.

Prabowo said energy and mineral minister Bahlil Lahadalia previously reported that over 340 sub-districts and 6,700 hamlets across Indonesia have yet to receive electricity. Of that number, there are around 1.3 million households without access to electricity.

To tackle the problem, the government would require around Rp48 trillion over five years. “Or around Rp9 trillion per year,” Prabowo said. The director general of budget at the Ministry of Finance, Isa Rachmatarwata, previously stated that Prabowo’s efficiency policy has saved over Rp3.6 trillion in the 2024 state budget.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani had previously issued a circular letter to cut the budget on state officials’ travel by 50 percent on November 7, 2024.
