Singapore Named the World's Safest City for American Tourists
As one of the safest cities, Singapore is renowned for its low crime rate and strict laws, particularly hygiene regulations.
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - has become the only safest city in the world for American travelers, according to Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, a North American-based travel insurance company. The city-state ranks eighth on the world's top 10 safest cities for tourists in 2025.
The city is known for its low crime rate and strict laws, particularly hygiene regulations. Signs prohibiting littering are visible everywhere. First-time offenders can be fined up to S$1,000 or approximately Rp12 million, while repeat offenders can be fined up to S$2,000 or Rp24 million and given a Corrective Work Order as punishment.
As for security, Singapore authorities have installed surveillance cameras in the downtown area. Police patrols are also frequently seen in popular tourist spots.
Theft is a serious offense in the city-state, punishable by fines and/or up to three years in prison.

Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, tops the list as the safest city in the world, followed by Copenhagen and Amsterdam. Other cities include Tokyo, Sydney, Montreal, Seoul, Berlin, Hong Kong, Venice, London, Honolulu, Dubai, and Barcelona.
In compiling the rankings, the company selected 31 international and domestic cities popular with American tourists based on sources such as Expedia, USA Today, and Forbes.
They also had their data collected since 2016. More than 1,500 survey respondents who had visited these cities for vacations were asked to rank based on various security measures, using their firsthand experiences as a reference.
The company then complemented these rankings with indexes and other information to evaluate security issues such as terrorism, weather emergencies, health actions, and underrepresented group security to calculate a weighted score reflecting the overall safety of each country.
In addition to city rankings, the company also compiled a list of the in the world for tourists. Iceland came first, followed by Australia and consecutively Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, New Zealand, Germany, Norway, Japan, and Denmark.
