TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT (Persero) recorded a surge in the development of electric vehicle infrastructure throughout 2024. In its efforts to accelerate the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia, the number of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) increased by 299 percent, from 1,081 units in 2023 to 3,233 units by the end of 2024.
PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, affirmed that this increase is part of PLN's commitment to building a robust electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia while supporting the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060.
"As a state-owned electricity company, PLN is committed to supporting the acceleration of electric vehicle adoption in Indonesia. This infrastructure development is essential to facilitate the increasing number of EV users in the country," said Darmawan in an official statement quoted on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
PLN also expanded the home charging services (HCS), which grew by 302 percent from 9,393 units to 28,356 units within the same period. Meanwhile, the number of Public Electric Charging Stations (SPLU) also increased by up to 9,956 units to support the increasing demand for electric vehicle users.
This infrastructural improvement was accompanied by a surge in electric vehicle transactions and consumption throughout 2024. Transactions at SPKLU increased by 337 percent to 402,509 times compared to 2023's 119,600 times. Meanwhile, electric consumption from EVs soared by 370 percent, from 2.4 million kilowatt hours (kWh) in 2023 to 9.1 million kWh in 2024.
PLN also noted a surge in the utilization of SPLU by 176 percent, from 7.3 million kWh to 12.8 million kWh, and HCS increased by 403 percent, from 2.9 million kWh to 11.8 million kWh throughout 2024.
"An increasingly robust EV ecosystem with adequate infrastructure certainly provides convenience for electric vehicle users. The positive response from the community towards electric vehicles is evident from the increased utilization of SPKLU and its related services," he said.
PLN accelerates the development of power charging infrastructure in various strategic locations, such as shopping centers, business districts, tourist destinations, and holiday routes. Currently, PLN has 2,306 SPKLU locations throughout Indonesia, including 500 units along the Trans Java and Trans Sumatra routes.
"We want to ensure that EV users can travel comfortably. We have mapped out the consumption patterns of SPKLU users and ensured their availability in major routes such as Trans Java and Trans Sumatra," he added.
To further enhance the convenience of users, PLN introduced innovations through the PLN Mobile application, including the Trip Planner feature that helps users plan their journeys with information on SPKLU locations, distances, and power requirements.
"We hope that the presence of evenly distributed infrastructure and integrated digital services will further facilitate electric vehicle users. All services can now be easily accessed through PLN Mobile," he said.
