The Reason KPK Has Not Detained Hasto: Cooperative and Not Running Away

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission () has cited a cooperative attitude and no attempt to escape as the reason for not yet detaining PDIP Secretary General , even though he has been named a suspect for giving bribes and obstructing the investigation in the fugitive Harun Masiku corruption case.

"Well, until now, in terms of the material requirements, he (Hasto) has come cooperatively. Summoned, he came," said KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK's Red and White Building, South Jakarta, as quoted on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

Asep explained that to detain a suspect in a corruption case, there are formal and material requirements that regulate. Based on the formal requirements, a suspect can be detained if the threat of a criminal sentence is five years or more, while the material requirements are that the suspect will flee, repeat the crime, remove evidence and so on.

Asep said that the KPK had not yet detected any plans for Hasto to flee. This is because he has been banned and there is no information regarding his travel records. Another consideration, said Asep, is that investigators still need information from other witnesses.

The KPK named the Secretary General of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto as the perpetrator of the alleged bribery of the Commissioner of the General Election Commission for the 2017-2022 period Wahyu Setiawan on December 23, 2024. The anti-corruption agency issued an Investigation Order Number Sprin.Dik/ 152 / DIK.00 / 01/12/2024 dated December 23, 2024 with a description of the investigation into the alleged corruption case by Hasto Kristiyanto and his friends. Hasto Kristiyanto is suspected of playing a role in providing bribe money to help Harun Masiku escape, a PDIP cadre who is a suspect in the same case and is now a fugitive.

Hasto is suspected of insisting on making Harun Masiku a member of the DPR from Electoral District I of South Sumatra to replace Nazarudin Kiemas who has died. In fact, Nazarudin's position should have been replaced by Riezky Aprilia who received the second most votes in the 2019 Election.

According to KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto, Hasto withheld Riezky's inauguration invitation letter as a member of the DPR and asked her to resign after the inauguration ended. Hasto also involved Saeful Bahri to meet Riezky Aprilia in Singapore and ask her to resign. However, this was rejected by Riezky.

"Hasto and his friends bribed Wahyu Setiawan and Agustiani Tio Fredelina in the amount of 19,000 Singapore dollars and 38,350 US dollars in the period 16 December 2019-23 December 2019 so that Harun Masiku could be appointed as a member of the DPR RI for the 2019-2024 period from Electoral District I South Sumatra," said Setyo Budiyanto.

In addition to Hasto, the has also named PDIP cadre Donny Tri Istiqomah as a suspect. Donny was the party ordered by Hasto to lobby Wahyu Setiawan so that the KPU would appoint Harun as the party to replace Nazarudin. Donny was announced as a suspect after handing over bribe money to Wahyu on Hasto's orders. According to Setyo, the money was handed over through Agustina as a former member of the Election Supervisory Body.
