Police Suspend Search for Glodok Plaza Fire Victims Due to Unfavorable Weather
The Tamansari Police Chief announced that the search for fire victims at Glodok Plaza will continue tomorrow starting at 8:00 AM WIB.
Tempo.co, Jakarta - Senior Commissioner of Police Riyanto, Head of Metro Taman Sari Police, announced that the search for victims of the fire has been temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions. "This afternoon, the situation is not suitable, and the eighth floor is also dark," Riyanto said at Glodok Plaza on Monday, January 20, 2025.
He confirmed that the search for fire victims would resume the next day at 8:00 AM WIB. Meanwhile, the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team from the Indonesian National Police Headquarters visited the fire site at Glodok Plaza today.
The Head of the DVI Division at the Police Medical Bureau of the Indonesian National Police, Commissioner Ahmad Fauzi, explained that their visit to Glodok Plaza was to assess and closely examine the condition of the crime scene (TKP). "It's crucial for us to understand these stages to ensure the process runs smoothly. We must ensure the operations at the scene are carried out properly to prevent any issues that could impact the next steps," said Ahmad Fauzi.
The fire at Glodok Plaza broke out on the night of Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Nine individuals were rescued and evacuated that same evening. After the fire was fully extinguished on Thursday afternoon, January 16, 2025, firefighters began cooling the area and discovered the victims' bodies.
By Sunday, January 19, 2025, eight bodies had been successfully recovered. At present, 14 family members of the victims have visited the fire response post to report their missing relatives following the incident.
