TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Subianto departs for India to attend Republic Day celebrations upon PM Narendra Modi’s invitation. This will be President Prabowo Subianto's first state visit to India.

Prabowo arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base at around 5:00 p.m. local time, accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and several other state officials.  

“India is a very important friend for Indonesia. They’re one of the most supportive countries in our struggle for independence,” Prabowo said before taking off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta, on Thursday, January 23, 2025. 

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 17, Prabowo will be welcomed by President Droupadi Murmu at the Indian Presidential Palace, Rashtrapati Bhavan, upon arrival. 

On January 25, the president will hold bilateral meetings with Modi and visit Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

President Prabowo and Modi will also witness the signing of several MoUs on various sectors, including health, culture, education, maritime security and safety, and traditional medicines, which aim to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Prabowo will then attend 's 76th Republic Day celebration ceremony as chief guest on the 26th of January. 

President Prabowo will be the fourth Indonesian president to be invited as chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations, which is accompanied by the historic participation of 352 Indonesian military personnel in the defile and marching band at the Republic Day parade.
