Indonesia's House Speaker Talks Bilateral Ties with Singapore Counterpart

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), , met ’s Speaker of the Parliament, Seah Kian Peng, and his staff at the parliament office on Friday, January 24, 2025. The two parties discussed a number of strategic cooperations between Indonesia and Singapore.

“Interparliamentary, economic, and socio-cultural cooperations, as well as geopolitical developments and the international situation,” said Puan.

The Indoenesian and Singaporean parliaments both agreed to boost established cooperations that were fostered during the previous administration. According to Puan, DPR will support the policies adopted by current President Prabowo Subianto’s government. 

Puan and Singapore’s parliament also talked about the current condition of Southeast Asia, agreeing to promote stability and security within the region. 

“We agreed to mutually promote matters that are beneficial to ASEAN and both countries,” she said. 

Based on Tempo's observation, the Singapore parliamentary delegation concluded the meeting with the DPR speaker at around 10:20 a.m. local time, and proceeded to meet DPD Speaker Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin before leaving the Senayan Parliament Complex.

In a press conference after the meeting with the Singapore parliament, Puan also expressed her views on several issues, including the sea fence case. She hoped for the owners of the 30-kilometer sea fence in Tangerang to be revealed as soon as possible. She added that Commission IV of the House continues to monitor the case.
