Megawati to Meet Pope Francis at World Leaders Summit Forum
Ex-Indonesian President Megawati was invited to speak at the World Leaders Summit on Children's Rights forum in the Vatican on Monday, Feb. 3, 2025.
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 5th Indonesian President and General Chairperson of the PDI Perjuangan party, Soekarnoputri, was invited to speak at the World Leaders Summit on Children's Rights forum in the Vatican on Monday, February 3, 2025. The Chairperson of the PDI Perjuangan DPP, Ahmad Basarah, said that the leader of his party was scheduled to hold a special meeting with Pope Francis.
"The meeting plan has been finalized by the protocol of the Holy See of the Vatican," said Basarah in his written statement, Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Megawati is in the same forum as Pope Francis. The leader of the world's Catholics will open the forum.
Meanwhile, Soekarno's daughter will be one of the panelists who will speak about her concern for humanity, especially in relation to children's rights today. In addition, Basarah stated that Megawati will also be a judge for the Zayed award at the forum.
"Mrs. Megawati will convey a message regarding concern for humanity. The views of Mrs. Megawati and the various panelists present are certainly important in showing their support for children's rights," he said.
The World Leaders Summit will also feature a number of world leaders and NGOs from international circles. Among them are Pope Francis, Grand Imam of Al Azhar Egypt, Ahmed El-Tayeb; Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, Antonio Tajani; Minister of Foreign Affairs of Gambia, Mamadou Tangara; and Queen Rania al-Abdullah of Jordan. This forum will also be hosted by Secretary for Relations with Countries Paul Richard Gallagher.
Megawati and her entourage have arrived in Rome, Italy, since Friday evening, January 31, 2025. Megawati's visit was accompanied by her two children, namely Rizki Pratama and Puan Maharani.
Upon landing at Ciampino Airport in Rome, Megawati's entourage was greeted by the Indonesian Ambassador to the Holy See, Vatican Michael Trias Kuncahyono, Deputy Indonesian Ambassador to Italy Tika Wihanasari, Chairman of the PDIP DPP for Foreign Affairs Ahmad Basarah, Deputy Head of BPIP Rima Agristina, and Director of Foreign Affairs of PDIP Hanjaya. Also present were the Chairperson of the PDIP DPP Bintang Puspayoga and Professor of the Faculty of International Relations, St. Petersburg University, Connie Rahakundini Bakrie.
Reporting from Antara, previously, had also visited the Vatican in December 2023. During that visit, Megawati had an audience with the Head of State of the Vatican and the highest leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis at the Papal Palace, Vatican, Rome, Italy, Monday morning, December 18, 2023.
