2025 U-20 Asian Cup: Indonesian National Team to Depart for China on Sunday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia U-20 National Team gears up to compete in the 2025 U-20 to be held in Shenzhen, China, from February 12 to March 1. The Garuda squad is slated to depart for China on Sunday, February 9.

Indonesia’s U-20 national team coach, Indra Sjafri, disclosed the departure schedule to the media crew during a training session at the GBK Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 5.

Thus, the Indonesian national team has about five days of preparation before their opening match against Iran in Group C in the evening of February 13 at the Shenzhen Youth Soccer Training Center Stadium in China.

Prior to the team’s departure, a total of 23 selected players under Indra's guidance have been undergoing training since last Monday.

The 62-year-old coach expressed his gratitude to the players’ original clubs for their cooperation from the training camp all the way to the final squad selection for the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup.

"I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the club managements, whether from League 1 or League 2, who have been supportive starting from the December and January training camps until now," he said.

"The communication with the coaching staff has been very good so the players could play for their respective clubs and also for the national team.” 

In the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup, Indonesia is placed in Group C along with defending champion Uzbekistan, Iran, and the team they previously met in the qualification round, Yemen.

Indra has set an ambitious target for the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup—leading the Garuda squad to qualify for the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile. To achieve this goal, the national team must advance to the semi-finals of the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup.

Prior to the tournament, the U-20 national team participated in the Mandiri U-20 Challenge Series 2025 in East Java from January 24 to 30. The team’s coach said it was intended to give the Garuda team ideas about their opponents during the U-20 Asian Cup and to determine the final 23 players set to take off for .
