Free Nutritious Meals in Palembang to Be Halted During Ramadan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Education Office (Disdik) of Palembang City will temporarily suspend the (MBG) program schedule during the holy month of Ramadan. This was mentioned by the Head of the Palembang Education Office, Adrianus Amri.

Amri said the temporary suspension is to adjust to the situation during Ramadan for both students' and teachers' comfort.

"During Ramadan, the Free Nutritious Meals program will be temporarily halted and will resume after Ramadan," said Adrianus Amri when met after a meeting on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

He said by suspending the MBG program, the student's activities during Ramadan feature religious programs, such as short-term religious schools (pesantren kilat) and other activities based on religious values.

"This activity is designed to help students understand religious values more deeply, while also fostering the spirit of sharing through activities like charity," said Amri.

Meanwhile, he said that non-Muslim students can do the activities according to their respective beliefs. "For non-Muslim students, they can participate in activities according to their faith," said Amri.

Amri also said that during Ramadan, students will study at home for a week, from February 26 to March 5, 2025.

"During this period, elementary and junior high school students in Palembang will study at home," he said.

After that, students will return to school on March 6, 2025, with some adjustments. Classes will be shortened by 10 minutes for each subject.

"School will also start at 07:30 a.m. to accommodate fasting students and teachers. Therefore, the lesson duration will be shortened," he explained.
