TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian women's singles athlete appears as a dominant force in the first round of 2025. The badminton athlete advances to the round of 16 at the BWF World Super 500 tournament at Istora Senayan, Jakarta on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Gregoria easily beats India’s Anupama Upadhyaya through two straight games of 21-12 and 21-5, ending the match in 25 minutes.

“Praise be to God, today is a good day to play. I felt like I made errors in the first game, but I played cleanly during the second, and my opponent made their own mistake, so I was able to control the game,” she added.

The 2024 Paris Olympics bronze medalist said, that in this tournament, she has the ambition to rise on top after she managed to advance to the semifinals of the BWF Super 750 India Open 2025 tournament.

“With the results at the India Open yesterday, I’m motivated to play better at the Indonesia Masters,” she said. 

Ahead of the round of 16 on Thursday, January 23, Gregoria said she would focus on restoring her physical condition because she was suffering from the flu. “As you can see, I am not in a prime condition, because I caught the flu after returning from India. Hopefully, my condition will get better every day,” said the fifth-ranked athlete in the world.

So far, Indonesia has nine athletes advancing to the round of 16. Apart from Gregoria, these athletes include: Putri Kusuma Wardani and women's doubles Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma / Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi.

There are also three mixed doubles pairs, namely Jafar Hidayatullah / Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, Rinov Rivaldy / Lisa Ayu Kusumawati, and Marwan Faza / Isyah Salsabila Putri Pranata. From the men's doubles, there are Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin.
