Prabowo Commits to IKN, Plans to Move Office in 2028
Presidential Communication Office (PCO) conveyed President Prabowo's commitment to the IKN project.
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President has reaffirmed that he will move his office to the Nusantara Capital City () in East Kalimantan on August 17, 2028. This decision has sparked public interest, prompting discussions about the reasons and necessary preparations for a successful transition in 2028.
1. PCO Spokesperson Emphasizes Prabowo's Commitment
Dedek Prayudi, Spokesperson for the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), conveyed President Prabowo's commitment to the IKN project. He said that the PCO would visit the IKN at the end of December 2025 to assess the progress of infrastructure development in the region.
“I want to emphasize that President Prabowo's commitment to the IKN is no less strong than [former] President Jokowi's,” Dedek said in Bandung, West Java, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
2. Domestic and Foreign Investments
Dedek, familiarly called Uki, highlighted that domestic and foreign investors have seen the government's seriousness in building the IKN. He claimed that investment activities continue, although they may not always be widely publicized. He also denied that the National Strategic Projects (PSN) initiated during the Jokowi era would be abandoned under the leadership of President Prabowo.
“During Pak Prabowo's term, it is not the National Strategic Project (PSN), but the 'Best Fast Results Program' (PHTC), which prioritizes eight key areas, including human resources. The PSN was not discarded.”
3. IKN Authority Prepares for Relocation
Danis Sumadilaga, Acting Deputy for the Facilities and Infrastructure of the IKN Authority, announced that the IKN Authority will relocate its office to the new capital city as soon as construction is completed.
“We will begin the relocation in February, God willing,” Danis said during a meeting at the Ministry of Public Works on Monday, February 20, 2025. However, he clarified that the relocation of civil servants will be determined by the Ministry of State Civil Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB).

“I was tasked with completing the infrastructure for the judicial, legislative, and executive branches,” Basuki said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
5. Security Measures
In preparation for the 2028 relocation, the government is implementing enhanced security measures in the IKN. “We will begin constructing these security posts in 2025,” Basuki stated during a meeting at Menara Mandiri II, Jakarta, on Monday, December 9, 2024.
