Tips for Replacing Protein Sources When Egg Prices Are High

Tempo.co, Jakarta - fluctuate based on market conditions, and when they rise, complaints often follow. However, there are alternative sources of protein to consider when egg prices are high.

Moms, don’t give up just yet. This is an opportunity to get creative in the kitchen. Here’s what experts recommend as healthy alternatives to eggs when prices are soaring.

Find other protein sources

If you’re accustomed to having eggs for breakfast, consider replacing them with another high-protein option. “Greek yogurt is a great alternative,” said Carol Holland, a dietitian at JM Nutrition in Ontario, Canada, in an interview with Fox News Digital.

She suggests adding fruit and granola for a balanced breakfast. Alternatively, Greek yogurt can be paired with berries and nuts for an even healthier option.

Replace with seeds for baking cake

If you're baking items like muffins or brownies, try using 1/4 cup of mashed banana as a substitute for one egg. Alternatively, you can add chia seeds or flaxseeds. Yogurt or coconut milk are also great egg replacements in many baking recipes.

Reduce eggs in fried rice

Fried rice without eggs might seem incomplete, but there are great alternatives. Eggs help add moisture to the rice when frying and to achieve a similar result, you can use avocado oil, Holland suggests. If you want to increase the protein content, consider adding legumes such as soybeans or edamame.

Cook an omelet with fewer eggs

If you typically make an omelet with three eggs, consider reducing it to just one egg and supplementing it with another protein source as are high, such as peas.
