Ministry of Defense: Deddy Corbuzier's Special Staff Appointment is Procedural
Ministry of Defense mentioned that the appointment of Deddy Corbuzier has followed the procedure and was approved by Prabowo.
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Defense stated that the appointment of as a special staff to the Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has complied with official regulations.
Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Defense Secretariat General, Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang, said that all procedures for the appointment of special staff in Presidential Regulation Number 137 of 2024 concerning Special Presidential Advisors, Special Presidential Envoys, Special Presidential Staff, and Special Vice Presidential Staff have been carried out.
Prior to the selection, Frega mentioned that the name of the prospective special staff must first be reported to the State Secretariat Ministry for approval by the President.
"The entire process goes through the Presidential Regulation. We cannot appoint special staff without a Presidential Regulation," said Frega when contacted by Tempo on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Deddy was inaugurated by Sjafrie as the Special Staff of the MoD for Social Communication and Public at the Ministry of Defense office in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Frega admitted not knowing who proposed Deddy Corbuzier's name to become a special staff. "Perhaps it was assessed at the internal level of the Ministry of Defense," said Frega.
Aside from Deddy, four other people were inaugurated as MoD special staff yesterday. They are retired Major General TNI Sudrajat as the MoD Special Staff for Defense Diplomacy, Kris Wijoyo Soepandji as the MoD Special Staff for State Administration, Lenis Kogoya as the MoD Special Staff for National Sovereignty of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia, and Indra Irawan as the MoD Special Staff for Defense Economics. In addition, there is also Sylvia Efi Widyantari Sumarlin as the MoD Special Assistant for Cyber Security.
Deddy Corbuzier is known as an influencer who often defends government programs on social media. His recent activities on social media have sparked public protests.
For example, criticized children's complaints about the free nutritious meal menu (MBG) through his video post on social media on January 17, 2025. He deemed it necessary for children to be grateful for being given free food by the government. "Pala lu pea (Your head is dumb)," said Deddy.
Chairperson of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Ai Maryati Solihah considered Deddy Corbuzier's action to be psychological violence against children. "Of course, this is a form of psychological violence for children who are called such. So, I do not want that to happen," said Maryati when contacted by Tempo on Friday, January 24, 2025.
